Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been used for many centuries in Asia as a treatment for pain and many health conditions. Fine needles are inserted into specific points along channels within the body known as meridians, to influence energy flow. This energy, known as Qi should be flowing freely throughout the meridians and organs in order to maintain homeostasis and good health. In Western medicine acupuncture is used to modify and control pain by stimulating the brain to release endorphins which act as natural opiate. It also helps with improving the healing process through enhancing the release of anti-inflammatories.
Physiotherapist will often use acupuncture to help facilitate the body’s natural healing process and alleviate pain. It can also be used to release trigger points which are associated with persistent muscular pain.
